ASHI EDGE

ASHI’s Virtual Learning Platform

December 4, 2024

ASHI Edge is ASHI’s online education platform. It provides home inspectors with access to courses aimed at enhancing their knowledge, skills, and professional development.

ASHI Edge primarily serves home inspectors who are looking to stay up-to-date with industry standards, earn ASHI and State continuing education credits, or prepare for licensing and certification exams, including the ASHI Certified Inspector credential.

Key features include:

Course Variety:

A wide range of courses covering topics like building systems, standards of practice, report writing, and specialized areas like environmental hazards or new construction inspections as well as business and other ancillary services education

Continuing Education Credits:

Many of the courses are designed to help inspectors meet their state licensing requirements or CE requirements for maintaining ASHI certification. Courses are often state-approved, and most are free for members.

Flexible Learning:

On-demand learning, allowing inspectors to access courses at their own pace and convenience, making it suitable for both new and experienced professionals.

Certification and State Licensing Preparation:

Some courses are specifically designed to help inspectors prepare for state licensing or the ASHI certification exam, providing them with study materials, practice tests, and insights into exam content.

Webinars

ASHI Webinars are designed to provide continuing education to our members through engaging, one-hour sessions led by industry leaders. These webinars offer a chance to connect with industry professionals and experts, focusing on specific topics that help inspectors enhance services, improve business outcomes, and boost revenue. Held monthly, these webinars cover best practices and current trends in the home inspection field. For added convenience, recordings of each webinar are available on ASHI Edge, allowing members to access the content on-demand. All ASHI Webinars provide ASHI and some state-approved CE credits.

Interactive Online CE Courses

ASHI Edge’s Interactive courses are a dynamic extension of ASHI’s online education platform. They offer home inspectors an engaging and interactive approach to professional development. ASHI Edge Interactive courses focus on delivering immersive learning experiences, helping inspectors sharpen their skills in a more engaging and practical way.

  • Courses are structured using adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to ensure relevance, engagement, and practical application.
  • Unlike traditional online video courses, ASHI Edge interactive courses incorporate real-world scenarios, problem-solving exercises, interactive elements, and simulations. This helps inspectors apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations they might encounter on the job.
  • The courses dive deeply into key home Inspection areas like HVAC systems, plumbing, roofing, electrical systems, and structural components. Each course is designed to enhance understanding and confidence in identifying and reporting issues.
  • After completing each module or scenario, inspectors take quizzes to test their knowledge and receive instant feedback.
  • Like ASHI Edge’s traditional courses, many of the interactive courses offer State-Approved CE credits to help inspectors meet state licensing requirements or maintain their ASHI certification.
  • ASHI Edge Interactive courses are available on-demand, so inspectors can fit training into their busy schedules and progress at their own pace.
  • Courses are developed by experienced ASHI-certified inspectors and industry experts, ensuring the content reflects real-world inspection challenges and best practices.

Specialty Badges

The ASHI Advanced Education Badge courses are part of ASHI’s broader digital credentialing efforts through ASHI Edge. These courses are available to everyone and provide highly detailed and advanced-level training, enabling home inspectors to gain specialized skills. Only ACIs can earn digital badges that represent their qualifications.

As of December 2024, three courses are available on ASHI Edge:

ASHI Standard Deck Inspections:

This class gives you the knowledge you need to inspect decks and identify defects based on objective standards, not just on your opinion. You will learn how to prioritize defects and how to report defects to your clients so they can understand and use the valuable information you provide

ASHI Standard Predrywall Inspections:

New construction is back, and so is the opportunity to perform predrywall inspections. You need to prepare before offering predrywall inspections because they are not home inspections without drywall. They can be a great source of income—or a great source of liability. The difference lies in knowing what to inspect and what to look for. This session introduces you to the tools you need to better serve your client and to avoid liability. This session shows you what components to inspect, how to identify deficiencies, how to report your findings, and how to manage client expectations.

ASHI Standard Swimming Pool and Spa Inspections:

Ready to dive into pool inspections? These can be a significant additional service for your clients and an added revenue stream for you. But they could also be a significant risk. The difference is in knowing how to inspect pools. This course introduces participants to the national Standard of Professional Practice for Residential Swimming Pool/Spa Inspections and to the new 2015 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, including inspection scope and limitations, criteria for inspecting components, and inspection reporting requirements.

Badges earned through these courses can be displayed digitally, offering ASHI Certified Inspectors a modern way to showcase their expertise.

As part of ASHI’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for members, more courses are expected to be added in the future. Our next badge course will be the ASHI Electrical Inspections.
