The State of the ASHI State

I ’ve always considered July to be the high point of summer, and as I’ve stated before, it’s my favorite month for many reasons. We can enjoy as many or as few outdoor activities as we desire. For those who have children still in school, this month offers a respite from being tied to the rigors of a typical school day; depending on the parent, that could be a good or bad thing. July evenings with the later sunsets allow for reflection after a long day of work, and I know many of our members enjoy the lasting sun because July is their busiest month!
July also marks the midpoint of the calendar year. It’s hard to believe, but we are halfway through 2022. Some exciting things have happened at ASHI, and others are still on the way.
Earlier this year, the ASHI team added a new and valuable team member. Rhett Claypool joins us as the Director of Information Technology. Claypool has been fortunate enough to work across diverse industries while building his expertise and experience in information technology. He gained firsthand knowledge of the association world while working for the Texas Restaurant Association as the Director of Technology and Services. Claypool brings an insight into IT processes and procedures that ASHI will benefit from greatly. He also holds a Bachelor of Economics from Rutgers and a Master in Information Systems Management from Auburn University. He will help ASHI continue to develop creative IT solutions that will benefit our members and the organization.
In other exciting news, the ASHI Edge launched to the general membership about six months ago. The ASHI Edge is different from our previous online education portal, as this is a true Learning Management System that houses interactive educational learning opportunities. ASHI now has an in-house team dedicated to creating unique and engaging courses that will help you explore different topics that impact the profession.
Since the ASHI Edge introduction, we have already seen higher levels of engagement from our membership than in previous years in the old system. The ASHI Edge houses more than 120 courses that any member can choose to take to earn ASHI CEs. Based on which state you operate your business in, requirements differ for receiving state-approved Continuing Education credits. In the ASHI Edge itself, you can easily filter for courses already approved by your licensed state. We continue to work on getting courses approved by different states where necessary.
One of the differences between the ASHI Edge and the prior portal is that there are courses ASHI has wholly built out to meet the needs of our members. The ASHI Education department has an in-house team using ASHI’s proprietary curriculum to build unique educational opportunities for our members. There are eight such courses already completed, with an additional to land this month. If you’ve not already accessed the ASHI Edge, please take the time to jump into the portal. Please reach out to the membership team if you need help with your account. Your membership dues include all the ASHI Edge courses at no additional charge, so please take advantage of this member benefit!
We are also excited that ASHI will host InspectionWorld 2023 at Planet Hollywood from Sunday, Jan. 29 to Feb. 1. Please mark your calendars now. You do not want to miss the pinnacle of in-person home inspection education. We will have education sessions taught by experts in the field, manufacturers, and special guests to ensure our attendees are educated and entertained.
This event is an excellent opportunity to meet others in the profession from all over the US and Canada. Exhibitors will introduce tools to make your inspections easier and services to help run your business more efficiently. This gathering will be the can’t-miss event of 2023. We are excited to gather together in person after a two-year hiatus and hope to see you there! Registration will open in September, so expect to see that appear soon.
