Member Benefit Spotlight

The benefit of badges

January 1, 2026

The benefits of being an ASHI Member are great. This year, we’re highlighting a new member benefit in each issue of the Reporter, beginning with a closer look at the benefit of digital badges in our January 2026 issue.

ASHI digital badges are available for all active ASHI Members. This gives ASHI Members an additional opportunity to showcase their commitment to ongoing education and professional excellence.

Steven Udelle received his ASHI Gold Certification in 2004 and is one Member utilizing badges, saying he typically sends off his digital credential link to anyone asking for ASHI verification. He says they look impressive on a home inspector’s website.

“The American Society of Home Inspectors was the only third-party accredited organization in the United States and the oldest. That appealed to me,” he said, recalling his time with ASHI. “I started as a former builder in Florida and started inspecting in 2001 with certifications from the Southern Building Code of Congress International, which later morphed into the ICC, and I joined the Florida Association of Building Inspectors in 2002.”

Today Udelle specializes in foundations, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing as part of his own company, Detailed Home Inspections, in Loganville, Georgia. “The home inspection business has been rewarding. My home-buying clients call me repeatedly for multiple home purchases and refer me to their family and friends. It’s a good feeling to know that you’ve saved someone from making a financial mistake they couldn’t afford,” he said.

Current badge-eligible courses can be found  on homeinspector.org and include:

ASHI Standard PreDrywall Inspections

ASHI Standard Deck Inspections

ASHI Standard Pool and Spa Inspections

ASHI Electrical Inspections

Upon completion, ASHI members will earn a digital credential they can proudly share on LinkedIn, their websites, and in email signatures. Learn more in ASHI Edge.
