InspectionWorld Huge Success—Photos Available

More than 1,000 home inspectors took full advantage of the conference, learning about ASHI’s exciting branding program; attending top-notch educational sessions; and enjoying social events. Total attendance neared 1,400.

Plans are in the works to invite the entire Membership to participate in the next step of building the brand kicked off at InspectionWorld.

Renewals up – audit begins

Membership renewals this year were up in all categories  – Members, Retired and Affiliates – with the exception of Candidates, which was even with last year.
Exit interviews are underway with those who did not renew and who did not respond to a letter asking if they had left the business.  

A random audit of those who submitted MRC claim forms is underway. Be prepared to respond if you receive an audit letter from HQ.

ASHI@Home offered to schools of higher learning

ASHI@Home is now being offered as a program for use in colleges and universities. The positive association between ASHI and home inspector education is reinforced as the correspondence course is adapted by colleges for their programs.

RFP undergoes outside review and is reissued

After review by a consultant, ASHI’s Request for Proposals (RFP) to establish a partnership for home inspector education and training will be reissued. The Education Committee’s rationale for seeking such a partnership focused on ASHI’s long association with home inspector education, the desire to play a significant role in home inspector qualification, and the opportunity to generate revenue for the Society. The RFP will be sent to the same training providers who received it previously. To suggest a name to be added to the distribution list, contact Jim Jones at HQ (jimj@ashi.org.)

ASHI exam soon online

The ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics examination will soon be available online. (This is a separate exam from the National Home Inspectors Exam, which is administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors.)

Building bridges

Immediately following InspectionWorld, ASHI President Rich Matzen attended a meeting of the Building Products Issues Committee of the National Association of Home Builders to present the results of a survey conducted by ASHI.

Approximately 20 to 30 ASHI Members and Candidates per state had been asked to identify products or construction techniques they routinely find failing to perform as expected. Matzen found the committee receptive and was told  the survey was so valuable it would be forwarded to other groups within NAHB. Additional opportunities for partnering were discussed.

In January, Executive Director Rob Paterkiewicz gave an in depth interview to a reporter with Crain’s publishing company. The reporter also contacted several other local ASHI Members in preparation for the an article in Crain’s Residential Real Estate Guide, a major mid-west publication.
