Find An Inspector

An overview of a useful tool for ASHI members

by Susan Lane June 19, 2025

Did you know? The Find An Inspector tool helps website visitors locate ASHI Inspectors and ASHI Certified Inspectors across the United States and Canada.

Using the tool at homeinspector.org/for-consumers/find-an-inspector, users can search by an inspector’s last name, company name, or location and refine their search with filters for languages spoken and services offered.

Each inspector’s profile provides more details, allowing potential clients to contact them directly or schedule an appointment.

How It Works

Managing Your Profile. Inspectors update their profiles in the ASHI Dashboard, and the system automatically updates the homeinspectors.org website daily. Only active ASHI members are included in search results based on their Membership Type in Nimble.

Search Process. Visitors enter search criteria, and the tool only returns inspectors who meet all criteria. For example, if a visitor searches for an inspector with the last name Smith, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois, the results will only show inspectors matching all three.

If a visitor searches by city, they must also enter either a state or zip code to ensure accurate results.

Name and Company Searches. A search for an inspector’s last name will return any inspector whose name contains that value (e.g., searching “John” will also return “Johnson”).

A search for a company name works the same way, returning results where the search term appears anywhere in the company name.

Searches are not case-sensitive, so “Smith,” “smith,” and “SMITH” will all produce the same results.

Zip Code Searches. The tool first searches within a 30-mile radius. If fewer than three inspectors are found, the radius expands to 60 miles. If still fewer than three inspectors are found, the search expands to the entire state.

Understanding Search Results

The results page displays the total number of inspectors found and keeps the search criteria visible on the left side.

If more than 10 inspectors are found, the results are split into multiple pages for easy navigation.

Randomized Sorting. Results are displayed in a different order each time a search is run to ensure fairness.

Filters for Additional Refinement. Visitors can narrow results using filters for languages spoken and services offered. The filters are dynamic—meaning they only show options available in the current result set. For example, if no inspectors in Chicago list Greek as a spoken language, Greek will not appear as a filter option.

By keeping your membership profile up-to-date, you can ensure your information appears correctly in searches, helping potential clients find you more easily.
