Evolving Education
Virtual classes, increased credentials, and more from ASHI
ASHI virtual classes are taking off, with more opportunities to learn from the comfort of home with a live instructor in a small, interactive setting.
These live, online, instructor-led classes provide ASHI and state CE credits, including from New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Illinois, and many others, differing from typical lecture-based content and webinars.
“These are detailed, personal classes. It’s a small enrollment in each to ensure attendees have time to interact with the instructor, to ask questions and get responses in real time,” says Edwin Barrera, director of education and curriculum development at ASHI. Class sizes range from six to 15 per class, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive regarding the intimate setup.
Students can expect plenty of instructor and student interaction with planned engagement opportunities as part of the virtual learning. Courses will cover topics like electrical, report writing, advanced HVAC, plumbing, and WDO/WDI.
Both new classes and popular past classes are planned for 2026, Barrera said. For example, a class on report writing, also offered in November 2025, will take place again in February. A first-time virtual plumbing class called “Fun with Fittings” is scheduled to take place March 6 and will be taught by ASHI Past President Bruce Barker.
ASHI looks forward to providing more in-depth virtual classes soon that will continue to provide both ASHI and State CE credits as well as digital badges in some cases.

Understanding the ASHI SOP
for Real Estate Professionals
An online, self-paced course for real estate professionals is coming soon to ASHI Edge, designed in collaboration with the ASHI Board and various real estate associations. The course is designed to help real estate agents better understand the ASHI Standards of Practice so they can better communicate with their clients and to develop better relationships with inspectors through a better understanding of what inspectors are expected and not expected to do during inspections.
ASHI Members will be given a code to share as they please with their real estate partners so they can take the course for free. CE credits for real estate agents who take this course are also in the works in some states.
