Building Community
Mentorship, camaraderie, and opportunities to keep learning are among the top benefits of becoming an ASHI member. ASHI members are among the most knowledgeable and experienced home inspectors in the country, and being part of the organization comes with ample opportunities to level up to be the best that you can be.
Mentorship Program
ASHI offers a robust mentorship program that helps new or less experienced home inspectors get the guidance they need to be exceptional home inspectors. The program pairs them with experienced home inspectors who volunteer to serve as their mentors. Many ASHI Members have worked in the profession for years and maintain a broad knowledge that can help those starting out in their careers as home inspectors.
“We, as ACIs, can step in and make a difference in the future of our profession,” said ASHI ACI Roger Herdt in a 2023 article for the ASHI Reporter. “The ASHI Mentorship Program provides all members with access to a wealth of experience that you can’t get anywhere else. Honestly, I am embarrassed I didn’t join the mentorship program earlier in my career. It’s amazing how good it makes you feel when you hear the gratitude in a young member’s voice in response to your answer to a situation you dealt with in the past. We forget how lost we felt when there was no one to turn to for help.”
Interested ACIs or retired members looking to share their knowledge and expertise with new members can indicate their interest in becoming a mentor by filling out the online form at homeinspector.org/resources/mentorship-program/ashi-mentor-form or emailing mentor@ashi.org. To find a mentor, visit homeinspector.org/resources/mentorship-program/ or email mentor@ashi.org.
Membership Directory
The ASHI Membership Directory is another massive perk of being an ASHI Member.
While it’s a great resource for homeowners and real estate agents looking for a home inspector, it’s also a useful tool for fellow inspectors. You can visit homeinspector.org/for-consumers/find-an-inspector to search by an inspector’s last name, company name, or location and refine your search with filters for languages spoken and services offered. It’s a great way to find experts in specific systems, partners for special projects, or even backup for when you’re on vacation or short on staff.
As previously reported in our May issue of the Reporter, each inspector’s profile provides a description of who they are and what services they provide, allowing potential clients to contact them directly or schedule an appointment.
Being an ASHI Member yourself offers an incredible opportunity to market your skills on your ASHI member profile. Inspectors update their profiles in the ASHI Dashboard, and the system automatically updates the homeinspectors.org website daily. Only active ASHI members are included in search results based on their Membership Type in Nimble.
Get Involved
ASHI Members have ample opportunity to get involved on a deeper level, whether that’s as part of the aforementioned mentorship program, serving on a committee, speaking at an event, or simply offering up interesting ideas for discussion on the ASHI online forums. You can find a list of ASHI committees and task forces at homeinspector.org/community/volunteer-with-ashi.
The ASHI Forums are also a chance to engage with the larger ASHI community, as they invite members to pose questions, reply to other members’ questions, share their latest insights, and more.
As always, we want to hear your ideas for future Reporter articles, too. Send your story ideas to editor@ashi.org.
