Award Nominations

Attention Members: Nominations open for Philip C. Monahon Award

Purpose: The Philip C. Monahon Award recognizes an individual who has made exceptional and innovative contributions to the ASHI Membership.

Criteria: The recipient must be an ASHI Member who is dedicated to the goals and ideals of ASHI as stated in ASHI’s Code of Ethics and, as a Member, has rendered outstanding contributions to ASHI for a minimum of five (5) years. Contributions consist of time, talent or expertise that has been beneficial to the Society, its members and the general public that ASHI ultimately serves.

Nomination of an individual: All Members are encouraged to nominate someone for the Philip C. Monahon Award. The nomination should include how the individual has contributed to ASHI, as well as other vital information as to why the individual should be considered for the award. Submissions received after the September 30, 2005, deadline will not be accepted.

Evaluation of nominees: Nominees are evaluated by the Philip C. Monahon Award Committee, which consists of three (3) previous recipients of the award. The committee is chosen by the ASHI President from the immediate past and five living recipients, with the chairman to be chosen among themselves.

Announcement of award: The recipient of the Philip C. Monahon Award will be announced at the Annual Conference. An annual cash donation of $500 is made to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in the name of Philip C. Monahon. The hospital is located at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, Massachusetts 02158.

Attention Chapters: Nominations open for John E. Cox Member of the Year Award

Purpose: The John E. Cox Award honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to their chapter during the specified year.

Criteria: The recipient must be an ASHI Member who has rendered outstanding service to an ASHI Chapter, either over a period of years or under circumstances that are special and may not occur again.

Nomination of an individual: Each chapter may submit the name and biography of one individual for the John E. Cox Award. Submissions received after the September 30, 2005, deadline will not be accepted.

Evaluation of nominees: Nominees will be submitted to the Council of Representatives for a vote by secret ballot. The nominee receiving the most votes becomes that year’s recipient of the John E. Cox Award.

Announcement of award: The recipient of the John E. Cox Award will be announced at the Annual Conference.

NEW membership Policy

To Our Membership:
You will find below the self-explanatory motion passed by ASHI’s Board of Directors on July 16, 2005. The new policy takes effect on January 1, 2006. Please read the policy carefully. A felony criminal conviction during the past 5 years or a pending felony charge (depending upon its outcome) may result in loss of membership or denial of an application for Membership. ASHI will follow the determination of state government where this matter is considered by a state board that licenses home inspectors. Otherwise, this decision will be made by the ASHI Membership Committee on a case-by-case basis.

“As of January 1, 2006, a felon may or may not become a member of ASHI based on the type of felony, when it was committed and whether their case has been resolved. ASHI shall ask on the application and renewal form if that person had had any felony convictions or is currently charged in the last five years. That individual must answer yes or no. If yes, that person must state what the felony is and the status of the charge and/or conviction at that time. If it is later determined that an applicant or renewing member did not answer truthfully about a felony conviction or outstanding charge, that person will be disqualified from ASHI Membership.

Each such application and/or renewal will be reviewed by ASHI staff whenever this box is marked. If the applicant or renewing member is from a state that is requires this same disclosure, ASHI will follow the states determination. If the applicant or renewing member is denied a license from their home state, ASHI will not allow the applicant or renewing member to become or stay a part of the membership. If the applicant is from a state without a license, ASHI will review the application to verify the information stated with respect to their checking off a prior conviction or outstanding charge.

The membership committee will review the felony information on a case by case basis to determine their eligibility for membership. The applicant/member may be contacted by the membership committee for further information and input by that person.”
