Home Inspection Education and Training
ASHI and AHIT have joined forces to give aspiring home inspectors the most complete launch possible — combining industry-leading training with the profession’s most respected credentials.
Two Leaders. One Clear Path Forward
Starting a new career in home inspection used to mean piecing together your education, credentials, and professional network separately. ASHI and AHIT have changed that, integrating everything you need from day one so you can focus on building your business, not navigating bureaucracy.

A Seamless Journey from Student to Professional
Most new inspectors spend their early years figuring out standards, business operations, and professional identity as they go. This partnership eliminates that gap.

Unlimited lifetime instructor support means your questions get answered long after graduation day. | 02 Enter the Field with Real Credibility Your ASHI membership begins on day one — display the ASHI member logo, access the national Find An Inspector directory, and operate under the industry’s most recognized Standards of Practice from the start. | 03 Save Money. Start Ahead. Expert package students receive a one-year ASHI membership (valued at $449) included. Training Built for How the Real World Works
AHIT’s curriculum goes well beyond textbook knowledge. It prepares you to operate a business, communicate with clients, and perform inspections that hold up to professional scrutiny — from day one in the field.
Flexible Format
Choose from in-person classroom training, live online instruction, or self-paced online study — so your education fits your life, not the other way around. Classes available in more than 75 locations nationwide.
Hands-On Field Experience
In-person students perform real inspections in the field during training, not simulations. You’ll learn from experienced instructors in live homes, building the confidence that comes only from actual practice.
Lifetime Instructor Support
Questions don’t stop at graduation — and neither does AHIT’s support. Unlimited lifetime instructor access means you always have an experienced professional to call on, whether you’re three weeks or three years into your career.
Business-Ready Curriculum
Technical inspection skills are only half the job. AHIT’s courses include report writing, marketing your business, and client communication — so you graduate ready to run a professional operation, not just perform an inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my ASHI membership through AHIT?
Expert package students automatically receive a one-year ASHI membership (valued at $449) when they purchase their training. Starter and Advanced package students receive a discounted one-year membership. There’s no separate enrollment process — ASHI membership is built directly into your AHIT package.
Do AHIT classes meet my state’s licensing requirements?
AHIT offers pre-licensing programs in many licensed states. However, licensing requirements vary significantly by state. We encourage you to verify your state’s specific requirements and confirm that the course you select meets them before enrolling. AHIT’s website provides state-specific guidance to help you choose the right program.
What is the ASHI Certified Inspector (ACI) credential and how do I earn it?
The ACI is the highest credential in the home inspection profession — and the only one independently accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). It requires completing a verified number of fee-paid inspections and passing the National Home Inspection Examination. ASHI membership gives you a structured pathway and the community support to reach it.
Can I take classes online, or do I need to attend in person?
Both options are available. AHIT offers live online classes, self-paced online programs, and in-person classroom training at more than 75 locations nationwide. In-person classes include field inspection experience in real homes. Online students gain the same core knowledge with the flexibility to learn from home.
What support do I have after I graduate?
You’re covered from multiple directions. AHIT provides unlimited lifetime instructor support. ASHI’s mentorship program, community forum, and local chapter network give you peer connections and ongoing professional resources as you build your career.
Are there military or veteran benefits available?
Yes. AHIT and ASHI offer dedicated Military and Veterans programs for active-duty military, veterans, and their spouses interested in beginning a home inspection career. Visit the Military & Veterans Programs pages on AHIT.com or homeinspector.org for details on available benefits and support.
What education is included with my ASHI Membership?
You can find free online courses on ASHI Edge, on many technical and business topics. Search the ASHI Edge Catalog here. These self-paced online courses are included with ASHI Membership.
