mechanical work on a house or building being constructed or renovated,

regardless of compensation

Does not need a License:

Inspect a home for real estate transaction purposes, regardless of compensation. (A license will be required on July 1, 2010.)

In 2007, Florida passed a new licensing law for home inspectors to take effect in 2010. Here is a link to the current law. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is the agency that will oversee home inspectors.

State of Florida:

Senate Bill 2234, enacted June 27, 2007 as Chapter 468, Part XV, Florida Statutes , provides for licensure and regulation of home inspectors. Chapter 468, Part XV, Florida Statutes , became effective July 1, 2010, and provides that the home inspector licensing program will be administered by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. There is not a Board of Home Inspectors. The department administers the licensure and regulation functions for this profession.

The links below will provide you with helpful information regarding the implementation process, licensing and grandfathering requirements, and links to the department’s proposed legislation, and department contact information.

**Mold Remediators have different licensing requirements.
