When You’re Looking for a Professional, Call ASHI
It appears the demand for disaster inspectors following superstorm Sandy is at an all-time high. Two companies that provide inspectors for FEMA asked us to spread the word about the need because they knew that ASHI members would come to the job with all the skills necessary to fulfill this role.
We obliged, and many members called to find out what was expected of a disaster inspector. Because I was only passing along the message, I wasn’t able to do much more than direct the callers to companies’ websites.
It turned out many of the ASHI inspectors who called were not in a position to leave their own businesses to work for these companies.
Nevertheless, it was a pleasure to speak with them. I was impressed with their down-to-earth attitudes, their desire to help others and their willingness to do what it takes to earn a living.
When I asked a member from New Jersey how he was doing personally, he said half of the roof on his home had blown off and the power had been out for a week, but the roof had been replaced, the power was on, his family was doing fine and he was ready to go to work.
All those who are part of the recovery, either because of their personal losses or working as disaster inspectors, are to be commended. In addition, members can be proud that when there is a need for professional home inspectors, the call goes out to ASHI.
