Welcome communications associate Judy Delvoye
Judy Delvoye brings a wealth of experience to a new staff position at HQ. Formerly a senior graphic services artist for a marketing agency, she has also been a pre-press operator and a digital imaging supervisor. Her varied background includes serving as liaison for high profile marketing clients, such as Frito Lay, Motorola, McDonalds and the US Postal Service; retouching and color correcting electronic files; managing a scanning department, and supervising a staff of six.
With this addition to staff and with Jacque Kirkwood continuing to be available for freelance assignments, the communications department will handle the full spectrum of publishing and communication needs of the Membership effectively and efficiently.
Give your Society its due so it can work for you
The 2001-2002 dues invoices were mailed the first week of August. Help ASHI by paying your dues quickly. It costs money to send out additional notices and the more who pay from the first invoice, the fewer second notices we’ll have to send.
MRC claim forms and dues notices have parted ways
Claim forms were sent in mid-August to all who need to report 20 MRCs by September 30, 2001.
The form was mailed separately from dues notices and should be returned as directed. If you did not receive a form, you do not owe MRCs at this time. Questions? Please contact HQ.
Do you know someone who deserves recognition?
The Philip C. Monahon Award recognizes an individual who has made exceptional and innovative contributions to the ASHI Membership. The John E. Cox Award honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to their chapters.
Nomination forms must be received at HQ by September 30, in order to be considered.

Veterans Administration approves National Home Inspector Examination for reimbursement
The State of Illinois’ Department of Veterans’ Affairs has granted a “Certificate of Approval for Tests Offered by Non-government Organizations” for the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE), managed by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). The certificate was effective March 1, 2001. According to the Department, since the NHIE is offered nationally, the approval is available nationwide as well; specific approval from other state VA departments is not required.
EBPHI sought the VA approval in response to several requests from military personnel and to a call from the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA) to participate in the US Army’s “GI to Jobs—Credentialing the Soldier” program.
According to the Illinois VA, once the examination is entered into the VA’s Licensing and Certification Approval System (LACAS), military veterans can be reimbursed for the cost of the National Home Inspector Examination ($195.00), whether or not they pass it. To be reimbursed, military veterans must send specific information to the local VA Regional Processing Office. Questions? Contact Noël Zak,
