Using an Electronic Newsletter to Market Your Services
ACI Bob Sisson, owner and operator of Inspections by Bob, gives local real estate practitioners, clients and others a reason to remember him by appearing in their inbox with an interesting message every month.
According to Welmoed Sisson, who writes, designs and distributes the business’ newsletter, it is emailed to approximately 230 people, most of whom are real estate agents or brokers. There are some clients on the list, plus self-subscribers, who sign up using a link on Sisson’s website.
“Doing a newsletter really is an enormous commitment of time and energy,” Welmoed said. “Working with Constant Contact makes it easy to do the layout; it’s coming up with the content that’s a challenge.
“Although my intention is to send it out the first of every month, I don’t always manage that. For some reason, the end of the month always sneaks up on me, and I have to put the issue together quickly. But I’m working on it.”
Using Constant Contact, she is able to track the opening and click rates, reporting that 15 percent had opened the June issue and there were two clicks, all within minutes of it being sent. The monthly open rate varies between 25 to 35 percent.
Welmoed said, “Every now and then, we get feedback from people that they like it, which helps greatly! One of my favorite parts of the newsletter is the “Important Dates” section. I bought a copy of Chase’s Annual Events (last year’s edition, so it was cheap), which has a ton of oddball holidays and observances in it.”
Occasionally, she emails clients inviting them to subscribe, but says, “I try not to be a pest about emails.”
Constant Contact costs the Sissons about $25 a month. The real cost for them is the time required to collect interesting content and create an attractive newsletter. The snapshot of the June issue suggests that Inspections By Bob is well represented by its monthly electronic newsletter.
