Right is right, and right always prevails.

In Memoriam

January 21, 2024
Forrest Lines (1952–2023, far left)—pictured here with a group of his ASHI SCHOOL graduates— will be greatly missed in the home inspection industry.

“Right is right,

and right always prevails.”

That was the mantra Forrest Lines lived by.

A giant man with an even larger heart is how many of us knew him.

Our profession lost a great innovator and educator with the passing of Forrest on October 2, 2023, after having served more than 30 years nurturing others to success in the home inspection field. Forrest was a past educator for
Kaplan, Ohio, president of NAHI National, past education director, board member and president of The Ohio Chapter of ASHI, past instructor for THE ASHI SCHOOL, and founder of By-Lions Home Inspection.

His continual smile was surpassed only by his longing to teach others how to succeed in this business. His contributions to beginners in our profession were unparalleled. Several who are successful business owners today are foreverindebted to his guidance. His smile and his unique gift for educating others will be missed by friends, former students, travel buddies, and
especially The Ohio Chapter of ASHI.

Forrest graduated from Ashland College with a bachelor’s in education. He loved to teach. He was a three-sport letter winner at Gahanna Lincoln High School near Columbus, Ohio. He starred in football, wrestling, and track—qualifying
for state championships in wrestling and track.

He later returned to his high school alma mater, coaching the shot put, and
was elected to the Gahanna Lincoln Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed playing in softball tournaments and coaching various youth sports.

Forrest will be sorely missed, but we can best honor his memory by living his mantra. “Right is right, and right always prevails.”

Updates on InspectionWorld 2024

New Construction Snafus

Before I became an indoor air quality (IAQ) professional, I was a contractor and a home inspector. During my home inspections and IAQ investigations of newly constructed homes, I found many problems that worried me, no matter what professional “hat” I wore. Here are some real-life experiences:

Inspecting New Homes

Many of the issues or defects found in existing homes were there from day one. Your knowledge and experience of inspecting occupied homes will give you a sense of what you’ll find in new homes, aside from age-related issues or the wear and tear of an older home having been lived in.

Professional Networking

Grow your professional network, find a mentor, network with the best, and best part of the community that’s making home inspection better every day.
