April is National Home Inspection Month, so we’ve taken the opportunity to add a new article called Budgeting for Success written by Belienda Schultz, our accounting and human resource manager. Her article covers a situation many of us don’t care to think about but is crucial to the success of our business.
President Loden has said he’d like to know if there’s a way to find out how many lives have been saved by home inspectors pointing out unsafe conditions, e.g., uneven stairs, exposed electrical wiring, fire hazards and the myriad other problems home inspectors report every day. So next month, we’ll feature a submission by David Grudzinski.
His story details a heating system that had both a fire and a CO problem. If left undetected, this almost certainly would have resulted in loss of life or property. Be sure to stay tuned for next month’s Reporter in which David will tell his account, which details the value of having a qualified home inspector do what comes naturally.
I’d like to provide more opportunities for you to tell your stories, from the serious to the humorous. After all, the Reporter is your magazine. According to ASHI bylaw 10.3:
The ASHI Reporter, or any successor publication, shall be the publication for official notices of the Society and may print and distribute to all members official notices of the Society and other information of interest to members, including election and referendum results.
So, please submit your war stories, with or without photos, to me: frankl@ashi.org. Having a National Home Inspector Month is a fitting salute to the efforts home inspectors contribute to the health and safety of homes in North America.
Another feature I’d like to add would be stories, examples or anecdotes provided by female inspectors about their unique experiences in the home inspection profession. It’s about time we hear from our female counterparts out there. This is your chance to let us know how you feel.
