NCHIA — The Coalition in Review

by Edited by ASHI Staff April 1, 2006

The National Coalition of Home Inspector Associations (NCHIA) represents a shared commitment to influencing state and national issues in ways that will best serve the home inspection profession and the public.

NCHIA1.gif Recognizing that many state associations were effectively addressing issues facing home inspectors within their state, ASHI introduced the idea of a coalition in 1997. State associations were invited to sign Statements of Understanding to strengthen their positions in their own states, while adding the opportunity to influence national issues and activities. Although ASHI is proud to share members with many of the Coalition’s associations, it was understood from the beginning this was not a contest for membership. Also from the beginning, the Coalition was expected to serve as a vehicle to share information and resources on state issues and to add the voice of the state organizations to ASHI’s as part of a unified national message. In January, representatives from many of the participating associations, as well as representatives from associations that are considering joining, met during InspectionWorld in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. All those attending agreed that it was time to consider the realignment of the relationships. Danny Maynard, who introduced the NCHIA concept during his term as ASHI President, and Max Curtis, who serves on the Public Relations Committee, will represent ASHI as the coalition defines its future.

ASHI continues to believe a strong alliance, with communication at its core,
can add value to membership in each organization, increase the influence of all the organizations, and promote excellence and exemplary practice within the profession.
