New courses continue to be added on the ASHI Edge to help you meet your Member, certification, and state licensing Continuing Education (CE) requirements while giving you the opportunity for specialty classes, too. 

ASHI Members are required to complete a minimum of 20 ASHI CE credits every year after their first year of membership. If a member completes more than 20 ASHI CE credits in one year, up to 10 ASHI CE credits will be carried over to the next year. ASHI Certified Inspectors (ACIs) are required to complete 20 ASHI CE credits per year to maintain their credential.

ASHI specialty classes help inspectors gain expertise and provide more comprehensive inspections to clients. ASHI’s specialty classes are in-person and live online and also provide ASHI and State CE credits. Exam preparation, HVAC, report writing, electrical, radon measurement, wind mitigation, and more are available as specialty virtual classes. 

The most recent business course to become available is Breaking Into the Home Inspections Business, created with ASHI 2024 Past President Mark Goodman. This business course is intended for those home inspectors starting out in the profession, though it could also be beneficial for anyone who might be interested in moving from a single operator to a multi-inspector firm, or anyone interested in purchasing a franchise or an existing inspection business. 

This course offers an honest look at what a career in home inspection involves and how it can evolve. As part of this, you’ll get grounded in the legal, financial, and operational requirements common to each path, and explore the key components of a business plan, services, pricing approach, marketing strategy, and referral network. You’ll also learn why building relationships with real estate agents is one of the most critical business skills a new inspector can develop.
