To the editor,
In the June issue, a picture on Page 19 in the article “Inspecting High-Efficiency Gas Heating Systems” is improperly identified as a Goodman flame sensor. This item is a hot-surface igniter or mini-igniter. A flame sensor looks more like a small, solid steel rod with a ceramic base, and it has only a one-wire output.

Author Alan Carson agreed and provided a photograph of a flame sensor.

E-mail your feedback in a letter. Share your technical expertise or business success in an article. Send us your safety tips, chapter news and Postcards from the Field. Write about something that’s on your mind. Tell your story. Contribute to the Reporter.
The Reporter depends on ASHI home inspectors sharing their knowledge and experience to make the magazine interesting and relevant to home inspectors.
Some of our readers are new to the profession, while others are experienced professionals. Most fall somewhere in between, but it seems that all inspectors are curious by nature, always ready to learn more.
Therefore, technical articles for all levels of inspection and business expertise are appreciated. The key is that they must be inspection-related.
The ASHI Technical Committee reviews technical articles before publication. We recommend authors submit their ideas for technical articles in summary or outline form before writing the article.
ASHI members receive Continuing Education (CE) hours for published technical articles.
Also, because the articles appear in the ASHI Reporter online, authors increase their likelihood of being found by Internet search engines.
If you like the idea of contributing to your society and the profession, please contact Sandy Bourseau at sandyb@ashi.org.
