Retired longtime ASHI Certified Inspector Bill Mason died March 6, 2011, at the age of 70 in Venice, Fla. Two years ago, in 2009, he was recognized for his dedicated service to the society by being chosen as the recipient of the Philip Monahon Award, ASHI’s most prestigious award.

Marvin Goldstein, ASHI president-elect, remembered his colleague: “In addition to serving on the ASHI Board and receiving the Monahon award, Bill was a pioneer of a strong ASHI relationship with the insurance industry, and he was the father of the Fortified Insurance Inspection program for inspectors. He also was president of the SW Florida ASHI chapter.

“In a world where people are remembered by their family and friends for their deeds, Bill’s family, friends, clients and every ASHI member Bill has helped thank God for Bill’s good example and deeds.

“Bill worked countless uncompensated hours for the betterment of the home inspection profession.  He helped thousands of homebuyers with the biggest investment of their life, and made many good friends due to his good work. Because of his contributions, we can truly say that Bill left the world a better place than he found it.”

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean; three children, Alan, Jennifer and Kerry; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara; and brother, J.B.

For many years, ASHI staff had the pleasure of working with Bill and Jean at InspectionWorld and when Bill served on several national committees.

Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
