In Memorium: ASHI President Remembers John Geiger

by Edited by ASHI Staff October 1, 2011

From President Kurt Solomon Jr.

“It was with sadness that I reported to the 2011 ASHI Board of Directors the passing of John Gieger. John was a long time member of ASHI. There is special interest to the current Board because in 2005 John Gieger, Alden Gibson and I all ran for the position of Speaker of the Council of Representatives. When the votes were tallied, I was elected Speaker and John and Alden had the same number of votes as runner up. To break the tie, John said, “I will step aside, and why don’t you Alden be the Alternate Speaker?”

John, 66, of Milwaukee, Wis., was a member of the Great Lakes Chapter. He is survived by his wife Kathy and four sons, a daughter and a granddaughter: Sean (Jacqui), Michael (Jen), Paul, Mary, Patrick (Jennifer) and granddaughter Eloise.

Memorials suggested to the United Performing Arts Center, Marquette University High School, Gesu Church, and the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center.
