In Memoriam
Matt Patkus, ASHI Member #137 and one of the founders of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ASHI, died June 25.
Fellow chapter member JD Grewell said, “Matt was a great friend and a true pioneer of the profession, who first began inspecting homes before there was an ASHI.”
Matt started the popular MAC-ASHI annual crab feast by organizing it, then hauling all the necessary gear to the various sites and doing the cooking. Grewell remembers “the first effort was northeast of Baltimore, at the Gunpowder Falls State Park at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, when Phil Monahon joined us.”
Matt also conducted seminars for the membership, sharing the knowledge he’d gained as a home improvement contractor as well as from inspecting homes.
Even after retiring and turning his business over to
his son Danny, Grewell said, “Matt was a force to be reckoned with and was an excellent friend to many
of us.”
