Editor’s Note: The Softer Side of ASHI
Pragmatic, matter of fact, practical — is that how many people would describe your average home inspector? And, why not? That’s what you’d expect of a person whose role is to introduce a strong dose of reality into what often is an emotional decision-making process and do so by producing a technically comprehensive report.
But the stories in this issue of the Reporter suggest there is more to ASHI members than a no-nonsense persona.
This month, Jim Hemsell shares more about the challenges and rewards of working as a FEMA inspector providing much-needed service to people who have lost their homes during a natural disaster.
You’ll also read how David Tamny, ASHI past-president, is in Denver participating in a HUD conference dedicated to addressing health and safety issues in homes.
Members of the ProASHI Chapter are working with Rebuilding Together.
And, during the first week of summer, ASHI members in three metro areas — Atlanta, Chicago and Seattle — volunteered to conduct free deck inspections during Deck Safety Week.
Throughout the pages of every issue of the Reporter, there’s evidence of the contributions members make to the magazine, their society, their profession and their communities.
There’s no reason to deny the perception of home inspectors as straight-talking realists, but those who look closely will find a softer side that can be celebrated and appreciated.
It’s a real pleasure working with and seeing both sides of ASHI’s membership.
