Recall of GSW water heaters with S.I.T. temperature controls. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below.

Name of product:
S.I.T. gas temperature controls on GSW water heaters
Units: 140,000 in Canda13,000 in USA

Manufacturer: GSW Industries Inc., of Fergus, Ontario, Canada
Distributor: S.I.T. Manufacturing N.A.S.A. de C.V., of Mexico; GSW Industries, Inc., of Canada.

Hazard:
A potential burn hazard from ignition flashback or an increase in tank water temperature.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported in the U.S. In Canada, where 140,000 units were sold, there were 45 incidents reported, including 15 reports of minor burns.
Description: This recall involves GSW water heaters with S.I.T. model 650 AC4 gas/temperature controls. The temperature control knobs on GSW propane water heaters are red and the control knobs on GSW natural gas water heaters are blue. The controls can be found on GSW Water Heaters with serial numbers ranging from 0202694162 to 0304507825.

Sold at: Regional appliance distributors from February 2002 through April 2003 for between $150 and $550.

Inspection Training Associates (ITA) to become part of Kaplan Professional Schools      

Kaplan Professional, a division of Kaplan, Inc., announced it has acquired Inspection Training Associates (ITA). ITA will become part of Kaplan Professional Schools, which provide real estate, insurance and securities licensing and continuing education programs through live classroom instruction, Internet-based learning, and correspondence courses. This move expands the Kaplan Professional Schools into new markets in Illinois, Florida, California, Virginia and Connecticut. ITA offers a full suite of home inspection training resources including business start-up support, reporting documentation and software systems. Founded in 1986, It became the first licensed school for home inspection in the U.S. in 1992. Kevin O’Malley, founder and President of ITA, will continue in his role.

With the addition of ITA, there are now 10 Kaplan Professional Schools across the country. These include Anthony Schools in California; Leonard-Hawes Real Estate Schools in Texas; Jones College in Colorado; The Dearborn Real Estate Institute in New Mexico; and ProSource Educational Services in Minnesota.
