ASHI’s Bylaws List Three Duties of the CoR

The first duty of the council is to elect the non-officer members of the ASHI Board.  Each year, the council elects five directors from among its members. This should make the chapters’ choice of a Council Representative a matter of some thought.

The person a chapter sends should be someone chapter members would be happy to see on the ASHI Board of Directors. That person will be your chapter’s choice to be one of about 80 people to choose who serves on the governing body that ultimately answers the question, “What does ASHI do for me?” That body is our Board of Directors.

In order for this to function as it was designed, the Council of Representatives needs the support of the chapters that provide the representatives and from the Board that it populates.

There are only two opportunities a year for the Council to meet, at the Leadership Training Conference in October and at its annual meeting in January.

Chapters that want to influence the future of ASHI’s leadership need to send and support their Council Representatives to make sure they can meet and interact with each other. That’s how we find our best leaders.

Send Council Reps who will contribute. Time commitments are not extensive, even for those who step up to be Group Leaders and Nominating Committee members, but the more they know how ASHI works and the better they get to know their peers, the more they can help make ASHI more and more valuable to its members.

When you choose your representative, you are contributing your chapter’s input at the grass-roots level of ASHI’s operation.  Choose wisely; it will come back to you in membership value.
