Call for Volunteers

by Edited by ASHI Staff November 1, 2009

Joining ASHI demonstrates a home inspector’s willingness to conduct his or her home inspection business in accordance with the ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. It means being recognized as a leader in the profession. ASHI also offers opportunities to use your leadership skills on behalf of the society. Because it is a member-driven organization, its continued success depends on the willingness of volunteers to serve on national committees and task forces. If you’d like to learn what’s expected and what’s to be gained by serving at the national level, see the Call for Volunteers form that was distributed by e-mail with First Thing and The Inspector newsletters. The form also may be requested by contacting HQ by e-mail (hq@ashi.org), phone (847-759-2820) or downloaded from the Members Only Web site, Publications, Downloads and Forms.

Comments on Ancillary Standards of Practice Closed

The comment period for Pre dry Wall Standards is over.

The comment period for Pool and Spa Standards continues until Nov. 30. See ashi.org for a link and directions.
A hearing covering both will be held at InspectionWorld Las Vegas on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, Bally’s Hotel, Las Vegas, Nev.

Council Representatives Elect Five ASHI Directors for Three-Year Term

Only Council Representatives nominate and vote for ASHI Directors.

The Council of Representatives shall elect the non-officer
members of the Board (Source, ASHI Bylaws 5.2.1).

Director Nominating Committee members, like those who serve on the Officer Nominating Committee, are elected by the 110-member council. The committee is charged with creating a slate of five new, non-officer board members and one alternate from the matrices received from ASHI Certified Inspectors in good standing who have served a minimum of one year on the council for a term beginning no later than Oct. 1, 2008.

Council representatives can petition to have their names added to the slate. Petition and campaigning rules are similar to those for the officer election. They are covered in detail in the Council of Representatives Policy and Procedures Manual, available online in the Members Only Extranet, Publications section.

Ballots were mailed to council representatives on Oct. 31 and the election closes Dec. 5, 2009.

ASHI Chapter Enterprise Award

Enrichment, fun, camaraderie, rewards and $750 — The ASHI Chapter Enterprise Award for Participation at InspectionWorld can mean that and more for the members of two chapters that finish at the top of their respective categories.

Established by an ASHI member who attributes his personal success as a home inspector and the prosperity of his multi-inspector firm to the ideas and information acquired by regularly attending InspectionWorld, the award was funded with a $15,000 donation, invested by ASHI’s staff, with the proceeds used in accordance with established guidelines. The guidelines were published in the last several issues of the Reporter and can also be found online at www.homeinspector.org in the Members Only section/
Chapters/Other Chapter Forms and Tools.
