ASHI Rolls Out New Membership Pins in 2006
ASHI introduced its new membership pins at InspectionWorld 2006 in Fort Lauderdale. Measuring about twice as large as the previous version, the new pins feature the ASHI logo in blue on a shimmering golden surface. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
The larger pins are produced in cloisonné, a French word for a process used by jewel-makers since the 6th Century A.D. In this technique, metal wires are bent to form a design and enamel is then inlaid into the resulting “cloisons” or cells. The result is a pin with tremendous depth and interest.
The larger-sized custom pins will be more visible on a jacket lapel than the previous versions, making them much easier to see, even from a short distance.
ASHI will be using the rollout of these new pins to begin a program to recognize members for years of service. Every five years, inspectors will receive a new hanging bar—similar in shape to an anchor—that will recognize the inspector’s 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years of full Member status in ASHI.
Protoypes of these new pins were distributed to six individuals at InspectionWorld. The full run of pins will begin shipping to Members in the spring and will be sent out based on the anniversary of a Member’s anniversary month. Did you become a full Member in July 1991? Then look for your 15-year pin in July 2006. Did you become a full Member in October 2001? Then look for your five-year pin in October 2006.
The smaller pins that ASHI has been distributing will remain good and usable forever. However, the new anniversary “anchors” cannot be used with the old pins. Brand new full Members confirmed in 2006 will start receiving these new pins in the spring.
