ASHI Enters Into Healthy Homes Agreement
The following organizations have joined forces with ASHI for the purpose of promoting the Healthy Homes Specialist credential:
• The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH), a non-profit corporation whose mission is to create healthy and safe homes for children through practical and proven steps, and
• The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), a non-profit association whose mission is to advance the environmental health and protection profession for the purpose of providing a healthful environment for all.
NEHA and NCHH have partnered to offer the nation’s first and only Healthy Homes Specialist credential for professionals in the health and housing fields.
The collective goal stated in the agreement is to enable ASHI members to better understand the health implications of their inspection work and to obtain the Healthy Homes Specialist credential so they can market healthy homes assessments as a new service.
The agreement outlines the future responsibilities of the three organizations. For example, NEHA will provide a simplified/expedited application review for ASHI members since the qualifications to take the exam already will have been met by virtue of becoming an ASHI member.
More information will be available as the action items in the agreement are realized.
Officer Nominations for 2010
The following ASHI members have been elected to serve on the Officers Nominating Committee:
Brion Grant, chair
Jay Balin
Cheryll Brown
Larry Cerro
Steve Gladstone
JD Grewell
Scott Patterson
Bob Peterson
Bob Walstead
Alternates: Mike Conley, Keven Kossler and Mark Londner
The committee currently is accepting nominations for the
Society’s officer positions of president-elect, vice president, secretary and treasurer for 2010.
Any ASHI Member in good standing may be nominated to any office. Self-nominations are permitted, and all nominees must agree to serve if elected. ASHI Nominating and Election Guidelines require that all nominations include a completed Matrix for Evaluating Nominees. The official matrix is available in the Members Only document section on homeinspector.org. It also can be requested from ASHI HQ.
As nominations are received at HQ, the staff will verify that all nominees have agreed to serve, have submitted the necessary background information and are ASHI members in good standing.
Nominations will close Aug. 31, 2009, and all nomination information will be distributed to the members of the Nominating Committee.
The committee will select one candidate for each position, but additional names can be placed on the ballot by petition.
A petition of 10 percent of ASHI Certified Inspectors in good standing can cause the name of a qualified ASHI Certified Inspector to be added to the ballot for a specific office.
Ballots will be mailed to the Members by Oct. 31, 2009, and the election will close Nov. 30, 2009.
Ballots will be counted the first week in December, and
election results will be published in the Jan. 2010 issue of the ASHI Reporter.
Comments and questions about the nomination process are welcome. Please contact Jeff Arnold at ASHI HQ, jeffa@ashi.org.
