“In the near future, we’ll work to keep our Associates and to attract new ones, and to hire a new executive director who will help set ASHI’s course for the future.

“I have always had the vision of ASHI being the national certifying agency for home inspector competence through education, training and certification, similar to what the Code Councils have done. This would be a positive benefit to the membership and public while providing an additional source of non-dues revenue.

“Another goal would be to have ASHI be able to furnish education modules and speakers to the chapters to use in their education programs, including modules that are approved for state continuing education units.

“I am committed to working with all involved to help guide ASHI and provide its members with the best services and
programs.”

“As your incoming vice president, I look forward to the challenges facing our society and our profession. While facing those challenges, we must ensure we do not
forget our core values (experience, standards of practice and code of ethics, and education), which have been the
foundation of our success.

“I am passionate that ASHI must remain the voice of our profession. Our history, experiences and values must continue to be told. We have a story to proudly tell  homeowners, homebuyers and the real estate community. We should also aggressively seek out others in our profession who believe and support our core values.

“One of the most important and immediate tasks is to search for a new executive director who understands our societal culture, believes in our mission, and who can effectively communicate internally and externally.

“We cannot do this work without your help. When I fist got involved in ASHI, I had no idea where volunteering would lead. I can only tell you that it has been personally challenging and rewarding. I encourage everyone to get involved and make a difference.”

“The primary issues before ASHI are
membership growth and growth of non-dues revenue sources. As chair of the Membership Growth task force, I am working with both staff and the Plexus group to gain meaningful survey information from both ASHI members and nonmembers so that we can define our future position in the home inspection association landscape.

“Changes in the home inspection and real estate marketplace require that ASHI respond in such a way as to reinforce our strategic advantages over competing entities. Such a response requires a creative approach based on sound market research. The result of these activities will be a Strategic Planning session involving the ASHI Board of Directors and a Business Plan for Board approval.

“I have two years of experience as treasurer and have both the financial skills and working relationship with our director of finance to do the job. My track record over the last two years speaks for itself as we have not only achieved a surplus in order to build reserves, we also have taken decisive action to avoid significant losses for this fiscal year.”

“As ASHI moves forward, the economy will impact the home inspection business. Our ability to adapt to alternative sources of income from different types of inspections will be the deciding factor in our survival. ASHI members have always been capable of adapting to a changing market. Over the years, ASHI’s programs provided opportunities for inspectors to stay connected to the marketplace by offering training in business, technology and inspection techniques. The chapters increased their presence by offering educational seminars. Education will always be the key to attract inspectors. The changing economic picture will
challenge each inspector to offer the best home inspection in the profession to our customers, and this can be achieved by better education. Expanding membership is always a challenge, but ASHI continues to provide programs that attract inspectors. Our presence in the industry is the benchmark for professionalism. This will continue with good, sound policies and leadership. Your 2008 Officers and Directors stand ready to accept the challenge and move forward.”
