Arizona Chapter Receives Honor from Governor

by Edited by ASHI Staff January 1, 2006

Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano issued a proclamation declaring December 2, 2005, as “Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors Day.”

According to Nan Mitchell, Arizona Chapter executive director, the proclamation recognizes the members’ contributions to the community, and their adherence to a code of ethics and participation in annual continuing education programs.

In addition, she said, “Our chapter members have been extremely proactive in working on the original certification legislation, establishing the rule provisions of the Proclamation.gif Arizona Administrative Code, and working with the regulatory agency on matters that might involve discipline for violations of the statutes or rules.  They are also active with other related regulatory agencies, such as the Registrar of Contractors, sitting on committees and providing input into proposed regulation changes.  And, the chapter has provided financial and physical aid to adopt families during the holiday season and participate in Habitat for Humanity projects, not only by working on the houses themselves, but also by providing meals to all the volunteers on the work sites.

“It is our hope that the proclamation can be a positive reinforcement for chapter members looking to volunteer their time and energies, and also to assist us in persuading those ASHI members who do not currently belong to the Chapter to join.”
In addition to being distributed to the local ASHI membership, the proclamation is being sent to regulatory agencies (Board of Realtors(r), Registrar of Contractors) to promote recognition of the profession within ancillary professional communities.
