An Update From Your Executive Director
We’re wrapping up another challenging but successful, year for your society. Next month, David Tamny, 2010 president; Marvin Goldstein, 2010 treasurer; and I will publish annual reports, then we’ll begin reporting on the challenges and successes of the new year.
But, as promised last month, I’d like to share with you how we’ve addressed the two remaining goals on my list of seven.
We’ve continued to develop programs and services that add member value, with an emphasis on those that produce non-dues revenue. ASHI has approved several new non-dues programs during this year besides ASHI Education, Inc. and The ASHI School. They include, but are not limited to, Multiview (the weekly e-newsletter), Senior Health Safety Network, Home Inspector Guide, Home CLUE, BuildFAX and Smart Track for non-members. We continue to work on other possible non-dues revenue programs. Generating revenue from sources other than dues allows ASHI to provide more member services without raising dues.
And, finally, we’ve applied to the IRS on behalf of The ASHI Foundation for 501(c)(3) tax status, which makes donations tax-deductible to the donor. In anticipation of a positive response from the IRS, the senior office directors and I are developing a business/operating plan for the Foundation, which will be submitted first to the Finance Committee for review and then to The ASHI Foundation Board for final approval.
Again, we’re pleased to be able to report that forward-looking leadership and staff have made it possible for ASHI to move forward during a time of great economic turmoil. Watch for the annual reports in the February Reporter, then for regular reports on how ASHI is meeting the challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities presented in 2011.
