About The ASHI Reporter
All who belong to the Society receive the ASHI Reporter as a membership benefit. As the Society’s official publication, the magazine is charged with keeping the Membership informed about association activities. First published as a newsletter the year ASHI was founded, the Reporter has always offered more than the required association news, by publishing technical, and business articles, and other items of interest to home inspectors.
Also from the early years, advertising space was sold to provide home inspectors with information about products and services of interest to them, as well as to offset publishing costs.
In recent years, the magazine added an issue, now publishing 12 times a year, and expanded the number of pages in each issue to 56 for 10 issues and 64 for two.
To comply with the US postal regulations, editorial content in each issue must exceed advertising content. Contracts with advertisers run from October through September and many advertisers sign on for the fiscal year. Recently, ASHI has been fortunate to receive more requests for advertising space than is available. While we do not expect demand to remain at this level, we do expect it to be steady.
In addition to editorial content always exceeding advertising space, there is always a clear distinction between the two in the magazine, and editorial coverage is planned and produced independent of advertising interests.
The Membership is encouraged to contribute to the magazine, but authors are advised to query first before submitting an article for publication. The Technical Committee reviews technical topic queries and articles for interest and content. Postcards from the field and reports of chapter events are always welcome.
There are more improvements and enhancements coming — both in content and appearance. Planning for the new fiscal year is underway. Suggestions? Let us hear from you. sandyb@ashi.org.
