QUESTION (edited):
Is the inspector required to operate overcurrent protection devices? Are overcurrent protection devices normal operating controls as defined in the 2006 Standards of Practice?
ANSWER:
The inspector is not required to operate (test) overcurrent protection devices. The inspector is free to select the methods of inspecting overcurrent protection devices. These methods may, but are not required to, include operating the devices. Overcurrent protection devices are not normal operating controls as the term is defined and used in the Standards of Practice. An overcurrent protection device is not a switch or control that a homeowner normally operates on a day-to-day basis.
