Question

Can the requirement of Section 7.1.C to report the presence of solid conductor aluminum branch circuit wiring be satisfied by a simple acknowledgement that it is present?

Response

The answer to this question depends on the judgment of the inspector regarding the implications of presence of this type of electrical conductor. Section 7.1.C states: The inspector shall report on the presence of solid conductor aluminum branch circuit wiring. If the inspector judges this condition not to be a significant deficiency, then a simple report of its presence is sufficient to satisfy the requirement.

There is, however, a significant body of opinion that considers this condition to be potentially hazardous. If the inspector judges the condition to be unsafe, then a reason why the condition was so judged must be reported per section 2.2.B.2 and a recommendation must be made per section 2.2.B.3. No requirement exists to report the absence of this type of conductor.
