“Exactly how does someone become a council group leader?”
Recently, I was asked that question and it occurred to me that many of you might like to know the answer.
In January, at the annual Council of Representatives’ meeting, council members gather to not only discuss the past year’s accomplishments and failures, but also to discuss the projected goals for the upcoming year.
During the meeting, representatives usually sit with fellow chapter members or members from chapters adjacent to theirs. At a point within the agenda, the speaker calls for the announcement of the group leaders.
To back up a moment for clarity, all the ASHI chapters and unaffiliated CoR members are assigned to specific regions. You can see the ten group names at the end of this article
As each region has several assigned chapters, they as a whole must select/elect a representative. This individual is titled as a leader of the region. It is his/her responsibility to be the conduit between the many CoR members of the region. It is his/her responsibility to maintain rapport with each of the members in such a way that the even flow of information is achieved. It is his/her responsibility to review the quarterly ASHI Board Books and express forethought regarding the projected motions that will be presented before the ASHI board.
His/her expressions should be a composite of the thinking of the assigned region members and not solely his/her own.
To learn more about the CoR and the group leaders and of the various functions and responsibilities, I sincerely ask that you contact any of the group leaders, the speaker or alternate speaker. We are here for one purpose: to provide a line of communication. We serve all the members of ASHI. We are your conduit.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Council of Representatives please contact your chapter president. If I can be of assistance, please contact me as well.
