Attention ASHI Certified Inspectors:
Nominations currently are being accepted for the Society Officer positions of President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for 2008.
Any ASHI Certified Inspector in good standing may be nominated to any office. Self-nominations are permitted and all nominees must agree to serve if elected. ASHI Nominating and Election Guidelines require that all nominations include a completed Matrix for Evaluating Nominees. The official revised matrix is available on ashi.org in the Documents section in Members Extranet. The matrix also can be obtained by contacting ASHI Headquarters, HQ@ashi.org
A petition of 10 percent of ASHI Certified Inspectors in good standing can cause the name of a qualified ASHI Certified Inspector to be added to the ballot for a specific office.
As nominations are received at Headquarters, the staff will verify that all nominees have agreed to serve and have submitted the necessary background information, including a response to all matrix questions.
Headquarters will verify the nominees’ status as ASHI Certified Inspectors in good standing.
Nominations will close Aug. 15, 2007, and all nomination information will be distributed to the members of the Nominating Committees.
Ballots will be mailed to ASHI Certified Inspectors by Oct. 31, 2007, and the election will close Dec. 5, 2007. Ballots will be counted the first week in December and election results will be published in the January 2008 issue of the ASHI Reporter.
Comments and questions about the nomination process are welcome. Please contact ASHI Headquarters. 2008 ASHI DirectorsAttention Council of Representatives:
Nominations soon will be accepted for five new, non-officer Board members and one alternate for 2008. Nominees shall be ASHI Certified Inspectors in good standing who have served a minimum of one year on the Council of Representatives, the term beginning no later than Oct. 1, 2006. Nominees must be on the COR during the election process, up until the time the ballots are counted. If elected, the Council member must step off the COR and the Chapter will be allowed to fill the vacancy.
The Directors Nomination Committee will submit names of possible candidates, and any COR member may submit his/her name or any names as nominees. All candidates must agree to serve and provide background information as required on a matrix that is available from HQ. Nominations close Aug. 15, 2007, and the Directors Nomination Committee selects a slate in September. Ballots then are mailed to the COR on Oct. 31, 2007.

ASTM Standards Development Update
An Organizational Meeting hosted by ASTM took place at the annual conference of the National Association of Home Inspectors in Las Vegas on February 19th. A letter announcing ASHI’s opposition to this effort was e-mailed and mailed to the entire ASHI membership earlier in February.
While no formal vote was taken at this meeting to approve creating an ASTM Standard and committee, a vote was taken on whether or not another Organizational Meeting should take place later in 2007 in a more neutral location, where all interested parties could come, discuss and ultimately vote on whether or not ASTM should move forward. In addition to home inspectors, we anticipate this meeting would include state housing authorities, consumer advocacy groups, builders, real estate practitioners, insurance representatives and others. The list could be quite extensive.
At this time, we have no information on when or where this next meeting will take place other than late spring or summer of this year. As we obtain more information and details, we will pass them along to you.
Nearly 600 letters, faxes and e-mails were sent from the ASHI Membership to ASTM on this matter, and our strength and breadth was definitely noticed by the ASTM representatives. In addition, of the approximately 80 attendees at the meeting, almost half were ASHI members. We are grateful for the efforts taken by everyone on this matter, especially when we were faced with a two-week notification about the meeting. We will need this strength again later this year, so please watch for information as we pass it along.Annual Notice
