STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Father and son -- Gary and David Kramsky -- both found themselves at stages in their individual careers where they were looking for a new opportunity.
At the same time that the Associated Press -- where Gary worked as a data center engineer from 1980 until 2012 -- was downsizing, his son David was gaining management experience at a local Pizza Hut.
"We were both looking for a new career and decided to go into business together," said Gary, noting their first business stint was a local beverage distribution route.
"Together we delivered beverages to northern Staten Island and New York City delis, restaurants and markets. We sold the route this past September, and began searching for another business opportunity," added the Arden Height resident.
That's when they opened WIN Home Inspection New Dorp.
"We looked at several franchise concepts and WIN Home Inspection made the most sense for us by far," said Gary.
"We felt like we could truly run this business together as a father-son team and handle all of the day-to-day business operations and inspections together. WIN Home Inspection allows us to have a positive impact on our community with the autonomy of running our own business," he added.
WORKING AS A TEAM
The pair say they share the same work ethic, which is built on a foundation of hard work and long hours.
"I enjoy working with my son because I know I can trust him to do a good job, a key trait when choosing a business partner. Family is very important to us both, so it makes the work we do more meaningful when we can tackle tasks together," said Gary.
Said David: "We have a very similar work ethic, which helps keep us both motivated and focused on a daily basis. We also share a similar sense of humor and way of thinking."
The Kramskys say their immediate goal is to establish new relationships with real estate professionals in the area.
"On weekends, we've been meeting with real estate agents face-to-face at open houses for the same purpose. From there, we expect to conduct daily home inspections while continuing to strengthen our relationships with other industry professionals on Staten Island," said Gary.
After Gary passed the Remote Pilot Unmanned Aircraft exam, the Kramskys have added the use of a drone into their home inspection business.
"The ability to safely examine the health of a home's roof with advanced technology gives us an edge over our competitors and ensures that we're providing extremely accurate reports," he said.
"Home inspections are an extremely important part of the home selling and buying process. We can determine when materials in a home were last updated, so homeowners are able to anticipate repairs, as well as replace those materials in a timely manner," he added.
The Kramskys' business motto is "Do the best we can to support our families, while also providing a quality service to our customers."
"We both have the same goal in life, which is to provide a fruitful and happy life for our families. This shared ambition allows us to work very well together. We both have strong work ethics, so we're able to keep up with each other and stay on task," said David.
